The Progressive Builders have recently completed a wonderful home addition project that provides modern convenience without disrupting the home’s classic charm. Our team added an extra living area to a historic home without compromising on its timeless look. This created a perfect mix of vintage charm and modern upgrades.
The client loved the classic style of their 1930s home, but their growing family needed more space. They wanted a large master bedroom, a quiet office, and a way to reach the backyard pool from inside. The owners mainly wanted the new spaces to flow naturally with the original home, so nothing looked added on or out of place.
There are several challenges in this project. First of all, the wooden structure and fragile plaster walls built almost a hundred years ago may be affected by the building works. Secondly, because the backyard was sloped, the builders had to level the land to make sure the new floor matched the main building.
Our design-build team handled the process perfectly, from the initial drawings to the final city approvals. To keep the home safe, we attached a strong steel mesh directly to the old concrete base so the house would never shift or sink over time. The crew then carefully cut through the old walls using heavy steel beams to open up the floor plan safely without damaging the existing structure.
The finished inside of the home is a wonderful success. The new main bedroom features tall ceilings and beautiful wood floors, while the private workspace has custom wood cabinets and special wall insulation to block out noise. Huge sliding glass doors open to the pool area, letting in plenty of warm sunshine.
