Recently, a local family wanted to expand their property to give their adult son a private place to live nearby while also planning for the future. They needed an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that would work well right away and still offer strong rental value down the road.
The main challenge was the yard itself. The buildable space sat right behind an existing garage, and a row of old citrus trees stood right in the way. The home also needed an electrical upgrade to support a second independent living area. To make things easy, the family chose a single team to handle everything from the early plans and permits to the final construction.
The builders designed a cozy one-bedroom ADU layout with a full kitchen, a private bathroom, and a comfortable living space. They carefully planned the layout to protect the mature trees by hand-digging near the roots. They also built a private walkway and entrance so the new backyard home remained completely separate from the main house. Energy-efficient windows and modern climate control systems were added to keep future utility bills low for whoever lives there.
The final result is a bright, independent ADU that solves the family’s immediate need for space while adding lasting value to the property. Whether used by family today or as a rental unit later, the new backyard ADU provides wonderful flexibility and comfort for years to come.
